Resilient Out-of-Band Management Over Fiber

Administrators need reliable access to switches, servers, and other critical equipment.

Yellobrik fiber converters provide compact & modular access over long distances with power redundancy.

Reliable remote management is a fundamental part of every modern data center. Whether supporting enterprise applications, cloud services, colocation facilities or edge deployments, IT teams need dependable access to the infrastructure that keeps everything running.

As data centers continue to expand across multiple buildings, campuses and remote facilities, designing that management network presents its own challenges. Distance limitations, rack space, power redundancy and infrastructure complexity all become important considerations.

Out-of-band management provides a separate management path to infrastructure devices, allowing administrators to access consoles, reboot equipment, recover configurations, and troubleshoot systems without relying on the production network.

The Modular yellobrik System

With decades of experience in the broadcast industry, LYNX Technik designs products for maximum reliability, enabling faster troubleshooting, reduced downtime, and rapid system recovery when it matters most.

Multi-Building Data Centers

Extending management Ethernet and serial console connections over fiber gives administrators reliable access to critical infrastructure across the site.

Colocation Facilities

A fiber-based out-of-band network simplifies long-distance management connectivity and provides a scalable foundation that can grow alongside the facility.

Disaster Recovery Sites

Secondary facilities need the same level of management access as primary data centers to troubleshoot and recover equipment remotely.

Industrial Infrastructure

Many industrial systems rely on serial-connected equipment for monitoring and control. Extending those over fiber provides secure remote access.

Build Your Own

Step 1. The RFR 1200 Rack Frame

Up to 14 yellobriks can be powered and mechanically clamped in place. Each slot has its own integrated power connector on a central power bus. The rack has two external 12VDC inputs for primary and redundant ‘backup’ power sources.

Status LEDs on the front panel indicate power supply health. The GPO connections can trigger alarms in the event of a power failure.
The rack frame is IEC 62368-1, CAN/CSA 62368-1 and UL 62368-1 certified. It comes together with a 100W power supply. Add a second RPS A100 PSU to get power redundancy on all installed yellobriks.

Step 2. The yellobriks
Choose between a wide range of yellobrik fiber converters for raw 3G and 12G-SDI video, 1GbE and 10GbE ethernet and Serial/GPI signals. All yellobriks are hot-swappable and plug-and-play, enabling fast, hassle-free installation and replacement.

1GbE to Fiber Transceiver
A pair of yellobriks each with two RJ45 Ethernet ports. The complete system functions as a 4 ports Ethernet switch bridged with fiber.

10GbE to Fiber Transceiver
A pair of yellobriks that can extend a 10GbE signal (Ethernet or Multi-mode) up to 30km over a single fiber link.

Serial & GPI to Fiber Transceiver
A pair of yellobrik modules which will extend the reach of serial RS232/422/485 plus two GPI over a single fiber link .

12G-SDI to Fiber Transceiver
Two yellobriks extending a 12G-SDI input and output. The modules auto-detect and re-clock both sources before conversion.

Step 3. Connect and Monitor

Lynx Technik yellobrik modules are available with either simplex (bi-directional) or duplex fiber SFPs.

Simplex (bi-directional) models use WDM wavelengths over a single fiber link. They are sold as matched pairs, consisting of one Type A and one Type B module. Duplex models use two fiber links and are sold individually. They are available with a range of SFP options, including standard single-mode 1310 nm, single-mode CWDM, and multi-mode 850 nm.

Use Lynx Centraal to monitor and manage your entire pool of yellobrik devices from a single interface. In addition to monitoring signal presence and device status in real time, Lynx Centraal provides centralized configuration, control, and diagnostics, with user-defined roles and privileges to ensure secure access for different users and administrators.

Expand Without Adding Fiber

Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) fiber technology combines multiple data channels onto a single fiber optic cable. It uses different light colors or wavelengths, spaced 20 nanometers apart, to send up to 18 independent signals at the same time without mixing them up. Lynx Technik offers a comprehensive range of fiber connectivity solutions to suit different network architectures and applications, including Standard 1310 single-mode, multi-mode, and CWDM fiber. For CWDM applications, the OCM 1800, OCM 1891/1892 passive Coarse Wavelength Multiplexers enable multiple signals to be multiplexed onto a single fiber link, maximizing fiber capacity while simplifying network infrastructure.
The Bi-directional (OBD) yellobrik modules use a simplex WDM point-to-point fiber connection that is not compatible with CWDM. Lynx Technik offer CWDM yellobrik variants to extend Ethernet, Serial and SDI signals over Duplex fiber that are fully compatible with CWDM optical splitters, muxers and demuxers.
